Why would you want to suffer more if you could just change something about yourself? Would you want your friends to feel annoyed, guilty, or anxious when you're around? We should be on a constant search to improve ourselves so that we can be a better person, a better part of the world, and systematically make the world a better place.
How to improve yourself?
Improving yourself is difficult to contemplate because we tend to focus on qualitative rather than quantitative qualities. For example, when cleaning your room, you can measure the space to clean it. You know you have to pick up the trash, make your bed, vacuum, put your clothes away, and so on. It's relatively simple to think about how to clean your room.
We must think to ourselves, "I need to stay away from those toxic friends," "I need to forgive this person," "I need to break this bad behavior," and other small things that we often neglect in order to improve ourselves right now." Make a list of items that you know will make your life easier in the future.
You have the ability to change right now. Could you break up with your significant other? Could you quit your job? Could you forgive your neighbor? Could you love your parents more? Could you work more hours and have more diligence? Things like these make improving yourself very easy because you can project them into the future. For example, if you quit your job, you'll be forced to find another job, hopefully, one that is better. If you love your parents more, you'll be forced to find another job, hopefully, one that is better.
There are four key categories you may look at in your life to obtain a rough concept of what you need to improve on to lessen overall discomfort to assist you to discover what to focus on.

Happiness
Health
You can't fully enjoy life if you're in pain or on the verge of death. Health can be as simple as keeping your heart rate below the recommended level, or as professional as trying to beat your 315-pound bench press strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance. All of these factors contribute to the factor of health. The second is wealth. You can have all the money in the world, but if you don't have good health, you won't be able to fully enjoy it.
Wealth
The wealth category is simply money currency value. There are many ways to increase your net worth, but the majority of the time it will take time. Typically, we trade time for money, but there is a catch: you must first spend time learning a new skill or trade. Read books on the topic to learn more about retirement money-saving tips budgeting and investing.
If you're in debt, paying it off would be a great way to improve your situation. If you have an expense in your life that is draining your income, you should investigate it further. Make a budget so you can see where your money goes each month and start by writing down where it all goes. Some people spend crazy amounts of money every day eating out, others make massive amounts of microtransactions, and people like me will probably spend way too much on whiteboard markers.
Love
Firstly, Maslow's hierarchy of needs is physiological, meaning that you have food and water, and secondly, that you are safe, that's why money comes in second and once the money goes out of the way to work the ladder up into the third need, love and a sense of belonging can lead to romantic love.
Being related to others is one of the most important things that people can build and that is why once you have cared physically, you can reach out to others to help you improve your relationships. You can take a look at the course I have designed to be more sympathetic, the psychology of attraction.
Happiness
Happiness comes last because once you have health, wealth, and love, you don't need to worry about happiness. However, some mega-wealthy people, celebrities, and even ordinary people have everything they could ask for but don't feel fulfilled or happy, and this is when a sense of purpose comes into play.
Duty or purpose is one of the best and most motivating feelings in the world. Once you've mastered health, wealth, and love, purpose and happiness are the best highs a human can live on. If you've mastered health, wealth, and love, finding your happiness will take some deep reflection and meditation.
